Midwife at the Maternity and Postnatal Department

At the Maternity and Postnatal Department at Østfold Hospital Kalnes, we are currently seeking experienced midwives for permanent 100% positions, currently organized in an exciting pilot project with 75% night work and 25% allocated for professional development. Here you will use your clinical skills where they are needed most - while actively contributing to development, quality, and competency building in one of the country's largest maternity departments.
What does professional development mean?
The development time is a pilot project where 25% of the working hours in a 100% position are allocated for professional development. The content is planned and implemented in close collaboration with section leaders and the department's development midwives. Examples of current activities (not an exhaustive list):
- Professional days together with other staff
- Training in obstetric emergencies (e.g., major bleeding, eclampsia, shoulder dystocia, breech presentation, etc.)
- Interprofessional simulation exercises
- Participation in research projects or clinical studies
- Work with quality registers
- Certifications and updates of procedures
- Knowledge transfer and collaboration across professional boundaries
- Development of teaching materials
- Contributing as an internal lecturer at the women's clinic
- Supervision of students and new employees
- Participation in relevant courses and conferences
- Job shadowing within municipal health care or other healthcare companies
Parts of the work related to development - including administrative tasks, preparations, and documentation - can, by agreement, be carried out flexibly regarding both time and workplace.
About us
The Maternity Department at Østfold Hospital is the sixth largest in the country, with over 3000 births per year. We have a dynamic work environment focusing on normal births and specialized maternity care, and we offer differentiated maternity care. In addition to maternity/postnatal care, we also have a gynecological section with 9 beds. We have extensive surgical operations, including day surgery and our own operating room at the outpatient clinic. We operate in both Kalnes and Moss. Annually, we have about 26,500 outpatient visits within maternity outpatient clinic, postnatal outpatient clinic, acute gynecological/maternity reception, urodynamic outpatient clinic, and gynecological outpatient clinic. There are good public transport options in the immediate vicinity. Current candidates will be called for interviews on an ongoing basis.
Job Responsibilities
As a midwife with us, you will rotate between the observation, delivery, and postnatal sections and work with:
- Monitoring hospitalized pregnant women, birthing women, and new mothers
- Delivery work and management of normal births
- Care and guidance of new parents
- Monitoring newborns in the perinatal period
- Documentation in DIPS, Partus, and Metavision
- Contributing to the department's quality and patient safety work in collaboration with section leaders and development advisors
- Interprofessional collaboration with doctors, nurses, and childcare workers
- Knowledge transfer and participation in the clinic's professional development
There may be changes/development of the position.
Qualifications
- Norwegian authorization as a midwife
- At least 2 years of experience as a midwife in a maternity department
- Experience as a delivering midwife is a requirement
- Experience with relevant IT systems such as DIPS, Partus, Metavision, Excel, Windows, etc.
- Proficient in Norwegian and English, both orally and in writing

Salary/Experience Calculation
Documentation of education, work experience, and statutory leave, such as childcare and military service, must be attached to the application and included in the CV.
